The teachings of Yoga have evolved for over 5000 years, being adapted to the needs of different cultures and countries as it spread from India to the East and West. Today we stand at a unique juncture in time presenting a view of yoga never before imagined. Secrets revealed, ancient lineages unfold and a wealth of sacred wisdom and techniques, once guarded, are made available for the healing of body, mind and spirit.

This teacher training is designed as a ten-month program to deepen your yoga education and connection with your inner self. Learn about the subject, culture, practice and teaching of Yoga. Embark upon a journey of self-exploration and transformation to find the roots of your own personal practice. Prepare t o instruct others precisely, adapting yoga asana to fit the needs of groups and individuals in any environment. Integrate yoga into your day-to-day life. Upon completion of the program (200 contact hours ), students will receive a certification meeting the requirements of the Yoga Alliance.

Course Requirements

  • Completion of all nine weekend workshops
  • Five Thursday Evening Trainings
  • Independent teaching of 15 classes w/critiques
  • Assisting in 8 classes with approved teacher (RYT)
  • Completion of all homework assignments consisting of reading, journaling and personal practice

Price: Cost of the program is $2700 in three payments of $900 or $2400.

Your Instructors

Kathleen Flanagan started teaching yoga at the age of 19 at her local YMCA in 1972. She completed the program at the Institute for Yoga Teacher Education in 1978 and left for India to study with B.K.S. Iyengar. She has also studied extensively with Ramanand Patel, Aadhil Palkhivala, Esther Meyers, Mary Dunn, Rodney Yee and Ana Forrest, and most recently with H.S. Arun. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher(e-RYT 500) with the Yoga Alliance and developed the Teacher Training program for Dancing Feet Yoga in Michigan City, IN as well as Yogamocean in Mendocino. Kathi is a graduate of the Chicago School of Massage Therapy and a bodyworker with over thirty-five years of Yoga teaching experience.

Peggy Phillips is a licensed massage therapist and energy worker. She is a Reiki Master, trained in both traditional and modern techniques. Peggy has taught in Hawaii and California for 15 years and brings a wealth of knowledge and information about the Chakra System and sublte body energies.

Sri H.S. Arun is director of the Prashant Yogashraya Yoga Center in Bangalore, India. A student of BKS Iyengar since 1976, Arunji has totally dedicated his life to the propagation of Yoga. He approaches each student according to his/her strengths, weaknesses and experience. His continuous studies into yoga and its relation to the mental and physical well being has helped him to introduce innovative methods of teaching Asanas and Pranayama.

Karin Uphoff received her teacher training in Vinyasa style yoga from the White Lotus Center in Santa Barbara, CA, where she studied with Ganga White and Tracy Rich. She holds a masters degree in Zoology, diploma in herbal medicine and is a massage therapist-all of which Karin integrates into her teaching. Karin has a private practice as a health consultant in Mendocino, CA.

Pilates Teacher Training Certification (Mat Level I )

Certifications Through PHI Pilates

This weekend course instructs fitness professionals how to lengthen and strengthen using original exercises for the mat as created by Joseph H. Pilates.

Mat 1 students will receive training on exercises themselves, effective cueing, and how to incorporate the movements into group fitness classes and with personal training clients. Attention will be given to Joseph Pilates’ principles, with focus on the shoulder and pelvic girdles, as well as neutral spine.

Recommended Experience: Proof of aerobic instructor or personal trainer certification, or college level human anatomy.

Continuing Education Credits: 10.5 AFAA, 1.3 ACE, and NATA

Pilates Teacher Training Certification (Mat Level II )
November 15th, Saturday 2008

Certifications Through PHI Pilates

Pre-requisite: Mat Level 1


This 10 hour course includes 3 online modules and a 1-day practical workshop. Mat II will lay the foundation for critical thinking for the mat Pilates instructor. Less emphasis is placed on the performance of advanced level exercises and more emphasis is placed on preparing to handle the difficult participant. Learn to develop a program that will meet client goals, adjust to special needs, mix advanced and beginner students, and some new challenging exercises. This course includes an online written exam and is the second step toward full certification through Phi Pilates.

Recommended Experience: Proof of Mat Level I certification.

Pilates on the Mat with Props Training Certification
November 16th, Sunday 2008

Certifications Through PHI Pilates

Pre-requisite: Mat Level 1


This 8 hour course teaches choreography that simulates Pilates equipment exercises using the stability ball, ring and foam roller. These exercises are designed for group mat work, personal training, or rehabilitation and will provide many creative ideas for modification and progression of traditional mat exercises.

Recommended Experience: Proof of Mat Level I certification.
